| It is now about the typical end of the
rainy season. Sebastian shows an mpingo seedling that is now over three times the height
it was when transplanted, as his left hand marks the original top of the seedling when it
was transplanted less than 6 months ago. The dried weeds hoed from the plot have been
gathered around the mpingo trees as mulch to hold in moisture during the coming dry
season. They will survive using the rainfall stored in the soil from the recent long rains
and the small amount of moisture coming from the buried water bottles until the short
rains come in late October. 18 June 2008. |
